The Reptile Room (A Series of Unfortunate Events Book 2)

The Reptile Room is the second book in the Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events book series and I think it was even better than the first.

I recommend this book for 8-12 year olds because any problematic words, parents don’t need to worry about, because the book tells you! Like standoffish, Lemony Snicket greatly described as “reluctant to associate with others” and testily, described as “in extremely annoyed tone.” Lemony also explains the phrases! This is the same for all unfortunate events books! If you don’t like happy endings, the unfortunate events books are definitely your kind of thing.

The second book is probably the saddest because they finally find a guardian who understands them. I do recommend reading them in order because you won’t know who the characters are and it will get really confusing. There’s not that many pictures, only ones for chapters and sometimes others. The pictures are all black and white and sometimes give you a big clue about what’s coming next in the story.

The story is a perfect mix of scary and gruesome. The chapters are 10-20 pages long. The stories are quite dark and mysterious. I will introduce you to some of the characters!

Violet Baudelaire is the oldest of the three youngsters and is very inventive. She makes inventions to save the Baudelaires from sneaky Count Olaf. Her style is goth and she wears a lot of dresses.

Klaus Baudelaire loves to read! He probably knows every word in the world! What’s funny about Klaus is when people say tricky words to him, they start to explain the word but he stops them and says”I know what (that word) means!” in a testily tone. Klaus is the middle child of the three youngsters.

Sunny is a baby! She has her own words for real words and Violet and Klaus know every single one. Sunny loves biting things and when Uncle Monty gave Sunny a bunch of things to bite in her room she was made up!

In the second book Violet is 14, Klaus is 12 and Sunny is a baby (you don’t find out how old she is). I rate the book 5 stars because of many different reasons but my laptop couldn’t even handle that many words the keys would fall apart!
